Drillimation Systems has teamed up with a Malaysia-based Touhou-style composer to produce a remix of a theme that first appeared in the Touhou 3: The Phantasmagoria of Dimensional Dreams NES Demake and later used as the first stage theme of Chuhou Joutai 3: Three Nights of Scarlet Abscess.
Last month, Drillimation teamed up with FanTouhouMusic and commissioned a remix of one of the most iconic themes from the Drillimation Danmaku Universe. The first of such remixes are now available for viewing on YouTube.
Susumu Takajima, the Chief Executive Officer of Drillimation Systems, says this is their most significant licensing partnership in the company’s history. Ever since Takajima watched this video by FanTouhouMusic, Drillimation has recognized the channel’s influence and is planning to commission more remixes throughout the second half of this year and all of next year.
Chuhou Joutai, one of the Drillimation Danmaku Universe‘s signature franchises, has retailed three titles referred to as the Chuhou Joutai trilogy on Steam. Ever since the first Chuhou Joutai game released in 2020, Drillimation has aimed to simplify the danmaku genre and make it more accessible to younger players. The entire trilogy can be purchased at $15 USD.
Drillimation approached FanTouhouMusic in April, just half a year after Chuhou Joutai 3: Three Nights of Scarlet Abscess released in October of last year. Takajima thought the channel would be a logical match – getting the attention of Touhou Project fans who have not yet played one title in the Chuhou Joutai trilogy.
To fulfill other terms of the alliance, Drillimation will also commission remixes of songs from the in-development Touhou Kourinden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria which is being developed for Whitethorn Digital.
