Programmer

We are looking for passionate software programmers to design, develop, and install solutions to Drillimation’s products.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Executing full software development cycles
  • Developing flowcharts, layouts, and documentation to identify requirements and solutions
  • Writing well-designed, testable code
  • Producing specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Integrating software components into a fully functional software system
  • Developing software verification plans and quality assurance procedures
  • Documenting and maintaining software functionality
  • Troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrading existing systems
  • Deploying programs and evaluating user feedback
  • Complying with project plans and industry standards
  • Ensure software is updated with latest features

Requirements

  • Experience developing projects in GameMaker or any one popular cross-development game engine (Unity or Unreal Engine)
  • Ability to develop software in GML, JavaScript, C++, or other programming languages
  • Experience with test-driven development
  • Proficiency in software engineering tools
  • Ability to document requirements and specifications
  • (optional) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field
  • (optional) Fluency in Japanese (JLPT Level 2 or higher)
Illustrator

We are looking for passionate artists to draw characters, objects, scenery, and backdrops that make up the games produced by Drillimation.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Taking rough sketches of concept art and transforming them into artwork for games
  • Liaising with the director and other developers regarding the style and feel of a game
  • Researching references and resources required to produce assets for a game
  • Sketching concept designs and key elements of a game’s art direction
  • Designing promotional materials, packages, posters, and websites for the launch of a game
  • Building 2D sprites of assets in line with the technical limits of a game engine
  • Applying textures to visual elements
  • Integrating special effects to textures, scenes and events, weather effects, particle systems, sparking wires, smoke, haze, billowing dust, steam vents, explosions, etc.
  • Advising on new technologies
  • Solving problems with creative and technical issues
  • Adhering to a production schedule
  • Curating and cataloging asset libraries
  • Designing with user experience in mind

Requirements

  • Strong portfolio of original work
  • Knowledge of lighting, perspective, material finishes, and special effects
  • A cinematic eye for lighting and shading
  • Strong drawing skills, able to visualize and design from abstract ideas
  • Able to work from storyboards
  • Advanced understanding of texture, color, dimension, scale, perspective, shade, composition depth of field, proportion, spatial awareness, etc.
  • Talent for visual storytelling
  • Knowledge of 2D animation, and familiarity with the principles of animation
  • Working knowledge of industry standard software such as Paint.NET, Photoshop, Illustrator, GIMP, etc.
  • Team player, ability to work independently
  • Ability to create special effects
  • Knowledge of anatomy, zoology, layout design, texturing, and asset creation
  • Comfortable taking on constructive criticism and deliver amendments based on feedback
  • Capable of working under pressure and consistently meeting deadlines
  • (optional) Bachelor’s degree in Illustration, Fine Art, Graphic Design or relevant field
  • (optional) Fluency in Japanese (JLPT Level 2 or higher)
Localization Editor (Japanese)

Localization editors ensure consistency in editorial style and alter text to maintain readability and appropriate written tone in the Japanese language.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Editing, proofing, and reviewing translations of written text in Japanese including game text, strategy guides, marketing materials, press releases, and more
  • Playtesting and participating in a quality assurance process for games, implementing changes as needed by applying a thorough knowledge of the Japanese language
  • Editing grammar, punctuation, spelling, readability, flow, naturalness, vocabulary, ensuring accuracy and consistency in style and terminology
  • Taking a lead role for projects, including sharing responsibility of conforming to the developers’ vision while maintaining a comprehensive picture of a project’s timeline and needs
  • Providing input and cultural perspectives in creative development meetings with other localization professionals
  • Contributing analyses and workflow improvements, responding quickly to feedback with effective solutions

Requirements

  • Editorial experience in the video game industry, including playtesting and quality assurance.
  • Exceptional communication skills, a focused eye for detail, and an understanding of how to balance short-term tasks with long-term goals
  • Experience of working in a team or localization professionals
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, or equivalent programs
  • Fluency in Japanese (JLPT Level 2 or higher)
  • (optional) Bachelor’s degree in Japanese literature or relevant field
