Monthly Updates: April 2020

Hi, this is the Prophet Driller from Drillimation Systems.

Did you think a sequel to Chuhou Joutai was happening? Or perhaps the images that required you to have a premium subscription to Twitter or Instagram? Nah, that was just an April Fools’ prank. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, things have been going well for us. I’ve been stuck in quarantine for more than two weeks now. However, that didn’t stop me from completing the official build of Chuhou Joutai for Steam and the Windows store. All we have left to do is make the Steam trailer!

The card above is also meant to mark the start of the new academic year in Japan. It’s common to see the cherry blossoms bloom in the spring (we have them here in the US as well), as many anime feature it when a new school year in their universe begins. Unlike in the US and other countries where the school year begins in late August or early September, the school year begins in April in Japan. This is based on a French system where the school year began in April as well.

The Japanese school year is divided into three trimesters. The first trimester runs from early April to mid-July, where students get a six-week summer break to avoid the heat, as it is pretty hot during the summer in Japan. The second trimester runs from early September to late December, where students get a two-week break to accommodate Christmas and New Year’s. Third trimester runs from early January to late March followed by a week-long spring break before the next school year begins. Pretty straightforward, right? In Kozan, they follow the exact same school year as Japan does but with minor changes:

TermJapanKozan
1Early April to July 20First Monday in April to the second Friday in July
2Early September to December 20First Tuesday in September (after Labor Day) to the second-to-last Friday in December
3Early January to mid MarchFirst or second (if the year begins on a Monday) Monday in January to the second-to-last or last Friday in March
Crown Princess Konata is picking up a fight!

The battle against COVID-19 in the US has only begun. With more than 3,000 recoveries out of the 120,000 cases to resolve, both those numbers are certain to jump within the coming weeks. To compensate for this, here is an image of Crown Princess Konata shown here in military garb. Yeah, did you know she learned to fire an assault rifle at a young age? The Kozanese Royal Defense Force propaganda machine has extensively featured her since the Kozanese Civil War began, and shows off she can be a leader in charge!

But, what are you going to do once the Chuhou Joutai Steam page goes up? Definitely you should add it to your wishlist, and maybe get it on May 22, 2020, when the game launches. The Arcade Legends promotion has been the most successful campaign so far, getting 55 clicks to its itch.io page. That is pretty impressive.

The launch of the Steam version will hopefully be the campaign to advertise how easy Chuhou Joutai is to play. In fact, we want it to be the first danmaku game most players should play. If you haven’t played it yet, we have released a shareware version of the game that allows access to the first three stages of the game for free. We’re probably going to face some competition with Bandai Namco as the remake of the 2002 Japan-exclusive Mr. Driller Drill Land hits the Nintendo Switch around the globe in June.
