Nearly three months after the launch of the Touhou Kichouden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria 2 game in September, Drillimation is set to captivate readers with a new family saga web novel under the name of Touhou Mihomu ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria After Years. It is intended for players who have finished Mythos of Phantasmagoria 2, including the postgame. The novel aims to explore the psychological scope and observation of the worldview, aesthetics, lifestyle, and social relations of the Golden Age of the Kirisame Dynasty and the life of Miho Fujiwara, the childhood friend of Mythos of Phantasmagoria 2 protagonist Crown Prince Kichou, five years after the events of the game.
The prologue chapter is available to Patreon subscribers for free, before it formally releases on Pixiv on December 28, 2025. New chapters will be released on a weekly basis throughout the first quarter of 2026.
About the Novel
Taking place five years after the events of Touhou Kichouden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria 2, Miho Fujiwara is a young town girl who has known Crown Prince Kichou ever since she was very little. When the Gensokyo Socialite Order began an all-out campaign to take back the Gensokyo Continent and avenge Vladrouge Scarlet’s death, she and Kichou began training extensively in the event the Order would invade Kozankyo, the capital of the Federal Kingdom of Gensokyo. When the Order captured Chikurin, Kichou was sent out to defeat the Order’s admins and top leadership. Miho accompanied him for his safety.
Five years after the Order’s defeat, Miho and Kichou are both about to enter adulthood. Once the two come of age, Queen Marisa is planning something big for them – an event that will be so magical for the two. Could the young town girl be elevated into a beautiful princess through a marriage with Kichou? Only players who finished the postgame know what may happen to the two, given a prophecy by the Queen.
Development
Planning for the novel and writing began this past October. Given Mythos of Phantasmagoria is a game series, creating a video game takes a long time (a year and a half, on average), and Drillimation had no plans to make a third Mythos of Phantasmagoria game. Instead, a much easier route was taken. Slice of life stories don’t fit into combat-driven games, though they could fit into a cozy adventure game. Creating a story that could be serialized by chapter can help build a community with readers and players as Miho’s royal story unfolds.
