Drillimation Systems has announced that their new game, the in-development Shining Shattering Sky ~ Reverie of Breaking Unreality, is two-thirds of the way done. This comes just one month after the first third was completed.
With the completion at 67%, this means 200 of the planned 300 stages have been finished, with ten bosses so far. The game’s director will take a short break this week to prepare for the launch of Touhou Kichouden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria 2, which is expected to release this Friday on September 26.
Most of the stages are developed in the built-in stage editor, allowing for the creation of stages en masse. A pack of ten stages can be completed in just an hour. The process for a single dream’s development goes as follows:
- Planning of the stage by writing the story.
- Creation of the backgrounds.
- Composition of the music that will be heard in those stages.
- Creation of the regular stages.
- Writing the script for the cutscenes, as well as creating additional sprites for these cutscenes.
- Programming the cutscenes into the game.
- Creating the boss sprites, as well as the composition of their respective themes.
- Debugging each and every cutscene and boss.

The process behind each dream is fascinating, and reaching 67% so quickly is impressive. Best wishes to the team for the release week!
