June 2025 Monthly Digest

Welcome to summertime once again. In four days, it will become even more wonderful as the Nintendo Switch 2 launches alongside a brand new Mario Kart. I will be getting both. Will you get either one or both on day one? I got the original Nintendo Switch on day one as well despite not preordering it. In fact, I was the first person at my school to own the console.

Key Developments

New game in development

Drillimation Systems is announcing that a new prequel entry to the Chuhou Joutai trilogy is in development. Titled Shining Shattering Sky ~ Reverie of Breaking Unreality, this game will star Tomohiro Uchida and Hikari Aokami, who are the parents of Chuhou Joutai character Kumiko Uchida. We wanted to sort of develop a “spiritual successor” to our most popular game Touhou 1: The Highly Responsive to Prayers NES Demake.

Initially, we didn’t plan to make Touhou Project fangames in the long term. The original Chuhou Joutai and the Highly Responsive to Prayers demake were both done to help us get our feet in the door. When we learned of the latter game’s success, we decided to make more demakes, which have also gone on to achieve popularity among Touhou Project players. The NES Demakes were all done as experimentation and accessibility. One of our biggest goals for the future, and if they approve, is have Mario star in his own Touhou Project fangame.

One thing you will notice in the screenshot above is Studio Emiko’s name is nowhere to be found. As mentioned in the previous Monthly Digest, they are having less involvement in Drillimation’s games after the Touhou Chouhatsuyou ~ Burgeoning Tresses of Longevity disaster back in April. She is still locked out of Discord, but we are currently making progress to have her back online as soon as possible. But what will make things even more complicated as she begins her university life.

Over the past month, the website’s subscribers increased by 76 for a total of 1,928 today.

Over the past month, Drillimation’s followers on Bluesky increased by 117 for a total of 1,768 today.

• Content was viewed over 23,000 times.
• Followers again slowed down, increasing only by 22 for a total of 3,811 followers.

Drillimation hasn’t reached their goal of hitting 1,000 subscribers, but we did get close to 900! Anyway…

• Content was viewed over 6,300 times.
• Subscribers increased by 24 for a total of 896 subscribers.

Future Goals

There’s nothing we have to do other than work on Shining Shattering Sky ~ Reverie of Breaking Unreality. More info will be available in the Summer 2025 State of Drillimation next month!
