Why Finding Shiny Pokémon Makes My Jaw Drop

Above is the most recent shiny Pokémon I caught. I randomly found it in an alley while looking for Mega Crystals around Lumiose City (Paris). That wasn’t the only shiny Pokémon I found in Pokémon Legends: Z-A – during the main campaign I found a shiny Vanillite appear out of nowhere.

I’m not really a shiny hunter, but whenever one shows up, I will almost always capture it, if I can. Two years ago, I happened to find one shiny in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and that was a Noibat. I had that Pokémon on my team in Ultra Sun and Moon. The only other time I had a shiny was part of a Mystery Gift for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which granted players a free Shiny Beldum.

Whenever a new Pokémon game releases, I always start fresh without transferring my existing Pokémon. Encountering one without a Shiny Charm is very rare. In fact, Hosokawa-san on my Discord server even asked about shiny Pokémon odds per species. The odds are 1/4096, and this applies to all Pokémon.

  1. It’s always a bizarrely amazing feeling when Shiny Pokémon show up! I remember when I found my first non-Shiny Gyarados Shiny in LeafGreen (a Golbat in Victory Road). Good times!
