A few days after a major outage over the weekend, itch.io faced yet another outage on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. It spanned several hours that afternoon, starting at around 11AM Eastern Standard Time and lasting a few hours, until another outage took place at around 2PM, spanning five hours, and the site didn’t get back online until 7PM. Nearly 2,200 users reported issues accessing the site.
The cause of the outage is unknown, though it may be related to bots making malicious requests to the site, causing it to be overwhelmed and crashes imminently happening. itch.io does not have a dedicated page on DownDetector, though Drillimation Systems has made a request for the site to be added, and is currently under review. There is no guarantee that it may be granted a page, however.
