Drillimation Announces New Soundtrack Album Series to Commemorate Chuhou Joutai’s Fifth Anniversary

Five years ago today, the original Chuhou Joutai released on Steam. To commemorate it, Drillimation rereleased the MOD tracker version of the soundtrack on Bandcamp under the name of Ayako’s MODded Score. Drillimation Danmaku Universe fans should participate in this emotionally-themed event before this year is over.

Drillimation has confirmed that multiple volumes of the series will be released, coinciding on the day of the original release date for each of the three games in the Chuhou Joutai trilogy. There has not been a new Chuhou Joutai game since the release of Chuhou Joutai 3: Three Nights of Scarlet Abscess in 2022, and Drillimation has plans to revive the series through a new game titled Shining Shattering Sky ~ Reverie of Breaking Unreality which will star the parents of Chuhou Joutai character Kumiko Uchida.

Chuhou Joutai: The Middle State of War was the first game series in the Drillimation Danmaku Universe, and its development dates back to the summer of 2018. Its protagonist Susumu Takajima became the official mascot of the company, and efforts to integrate the franchise’s characters into the Touhou Project fangames the company has produced have been a staple. Kagami Ochiai has appeared in multiple fangames both internal and external, ranging from the Touhou Project NES Demakes to the standalone games of Touhou Meijinka ~ Song of Divine Tempest and Touhou Chouhatsuyou ~ Burgeoning Tresses of Longevity. Kagami’s first appearance in a Touhou Project fangame was in Catch Hina!, produced for a game jam.

The Ayako’s MODded Score series will continue throughout the summer until October 7, 2025 when the last album releases and concludes the series.
