YouTube Removals Are Reportedly Increasing From Artificial Intelligence Companies

Online piracy has become a constant challenge and headache for copyright holders, and they are particularly difficult or impossible to beat. Because the owners of pirate organizations and sites often do not comply with takedown requests, or involve tens of thousands of unauthorized copies being distributed online, companies often outsource this work to third-party vendors who scan the web using artificial intelligence, including major sites like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky, Twitch, and many other services.

YouTube has now become a primary target for takedown requests made using artificial intelligence, with multiple vendors such as Tracer AI and Muso being takedown champions on the site.

This process has been going on for over a decade, fueled by reports from thousands of rightsholders, and those two stand out in a way that no other user on YouTube has witnessed before. As of February 2025, the later company, Muso, has removed over 130 million pirate search results from Google. It is no surprise they are becoming the most prolific takedown sender on YouTube.

Muso has revealed their notices are sent on behalf of entertainment companies. The rise of channels providing extended video game music soundtracks has made Muso very active on the anti-piracy front. Apps such as Nintendo Music allow consumers to legally stream game soundtracks at extended times, but these are not offered on YouTube. In fact, the Association of Independent Music, which represents the independent record sector in the United Kingdom, stands out the most with over 15 million URLs delisted on Google.

It is clear that artificial intelligence is becoming more active than most other takedown outlets, and various online testimonials for these services state that company executives are quite satisfied with the service. Muso has reportedly sent over half a billion notices as of 2025, and has also made clear they are making an impact and many companies are content.

  1. Thank you for this information and highlighting the indiscriminate acts of AI. I never did like the idea of living in an automatically controlled world, it will be the downfall of humanity, human contact and personal interactions with real humans. Nothing is safe anymore. We are not safe especially the holders of protected copyright materials. Makes one very wary of our personal safety and data. Big brother is definately watching and I do not like it. IG is full of information now about how to stop AI tracking, listening to everything we do. Invasion of the aliens has come to fruition! Thanks for liking my posts as I yours and your invaluable info 🙏
