If you’ve ever seen a yuurei, they’re depicted in a white kimono with blue hair, as well as a headband called a hitaikakushi. But did you know that the tribe has a ritual of dying people’s hair blue?
Any person who marries a member of the Yuurei Tribe must go through a ritual named aosomari (青染まり). Via this ritual, the incoming member of the family must have their hair dyed blue as part of an ordination process. After the dying process, the hair must continuously be dyed once two finger widths of non-blue hair grow.
The yuurei people are a youkai-born tribe native to Japan and Western Gensokyo, and they have been practicing this for hundreds of years. In many western countries, blue is considered a positive color, but in Japan, a dark shade of blue is considered a negative color in some contexts.

Sounds ghoulish and I see it in real life in some women here in the US for some reason. No one ever looks pretty with blue hair unless you are a gorgeous person inside and out.

I’m laugh-crying at this. Blue can look good, especially on dark hair.
