When to Find Inspiration For Graphics Research

For us at Drillimation Systems, our cultural surroundings locally don’t always provide the inspirations needed for something. Sometimes, that inspiration can be abroad – far from home. In every direction and corner of the globe from the Americas, Eurasia, and Oceania, there were always be one or two places to find inspiration.

To me, one trip that definitely inspired me the most was me going to Japan and Indonesia in August 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic. Japan is considered one of my target markets, and within the years that have passed, I managed to get a foothold with the games I have made.

In terms of every direction I’ve traveled the farthest as of 2024, this would be:

  • North: Northern coast of Alaska (only during my flight to Japan)
  • East: Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom
  • South: Bali, Indonesia
  • West: Jakarta, Indonesia

Old records prior to 2023:

  • North: Northern coast of Alaska (only during my flight to Japan)
  • East: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
  • South: Bali, Indonesia
  • West: Jakarta, Indonesia

Old records prior to 2019:

  • North: Québec City, Québec, Canada
  • East: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
  • South: Orlando, Florida
  • West: Salt Lake City, Utah

Old records prior to 2017:

  • North: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
  • East: Boston, Massachusetts
  • South: Orlando, Florida
  • West: Salt Lake City, Utah

To date, my Asia trip in 2019 was the longest, farthest trip I ever took. I ended up flying from Toronto to Tokyo, then to Jakarta. I also briefly stopped in China for a few hours as part of a layover on my trip back to Japan.
