The Daily Bunbunmaru After the Establishment of the Federal Kingdom of Gensokyo

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Touhou Kourinden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria. We don’t recommend reading this until you’ve completed the main campaign.

The Daily Bunbunmaru is the regional newspaper for the Kozankyo metro area. It’s even existed before the Federal Kingdom of Gensokyo was even established. Initially, the Daily Bunbunmaru served all of Gensokyo but more copies in Kozankyo started being produced at a faster rate after the establishment. In fact, here’s the newspaper article exactly as it appeared following the establishment of the Federal Kingdom of Gensokyo on January 3, 1702:

Marisa Kirisame Proclaims a Kingdom in Kozan; Kirisame Named Queen

January 3, 1702 – KOZANKYO, Federal Kingdom of Gensokyo

After a long battle against the Gensokyo Socialite Order and the defeat of its founder and leader Vladrouge Scarlet, Marisa Kirisame yesterday named herself queen of a new country titled the Federal Kingdom of Gensokyo. At the same time, the new kingdom declared itself to be the sole legal government of the Gensokyo continent and invited recognition by other nations. Several smaller neighboring kingdoms on the continent joined the new federation.

Kirisame claimed Scarlet’s defeat marked the liberation of the continent from the Order. She announced that Alice Margatroid would be the kingdom’s first premier, Patchouli Knowledge as foreign minister, and Kirisame herself taking the role as commander-in-chief for the Gensokyo Royal Defense Force.

More than 2,000 people gathered in Kozan, which has now been renamed Kozankyo, to hear this historic pronouncement. All stood to attention when the flag of the kingdom was hoisted in the Kozankyo Imperial Palace, which was built prior to the marriage of Kirisame and Morichika. A military band also played the kingdom’s national anthem, Hero of Phantasm.

After the announcement, the kingdom hosted a ceremonial parade. Units of the various branches of the Gensokyo Royal Defense Force took part in the march. Other individuals who took part in the parade included members of the Swedish cultural and educational mission who have been accorded ambassadorial ranks for the occasion. There have been no other foreign representatives attending the ceremony.

The Swedish government recognized the new Federal Kingdom of Gensokyo. They confirmed they would fund the new kingdom which in turn would have Queen Marisa rapidly educate the people and grow the military and economy. The constitution for the kingdom aims to be free and open, with people being allowed to voice their opinion and redress the government for grievances.

What may follow within the coming months or years may be explained. “The working class and peasants will aid in the development of the economy and society,” Margatroid said. Kirisame intends to have the kingdom develop through industrialization.
