Drillimation Systems to Become Exclusive International Distributor For All Future Emiko Anthological Universe Games

Drillimation Systems, the developer behind Touhou Meijinka ~ Song of Divine Tempest, today announced they will agree to distribute future games of the Emiko Anthological Universe (often abbreviated as Emiverse) by the Vietnam-based Studio Emiko.

Studio Emiko co-developed their first title with Drillimation Systems last year. Through this deal, Drillimation will deliver interactive entertainment worldwide on major platforms such as Steam and itch.io. Drillimation doesn’t have any plans to export to mobile devices at the moment.

“We are looking to bring the expressions of developers to not just here in America, but all over the world,” says Drillimation Systems founder and CEO Susumu Takajima. “Through this relationship, we will take the benefits and reach into segments of the world that are normally hard for them to reach normally, but also the impossible to reach.”

This partnership came after Steam was blacklisted on most major Vietnamese internet service providers three days after Touhou Kourinden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria officially released on the platform. Studio Emiko is in the process of setting up a virtual YouTuber agency, but nearly got stalled in the wake of the blacklisting making it difficult to access the Steam storefront and to purchase products without using a proxy or VPN.

The lack of a rating system and regulation by Valve are considered two of the primary reasons for its blacklisting. “There’s a reason the App Store and Google Play are allowed to exist in Vietnam, thanks to the use of a rating system to keep unwanted content from reaching its shores. If a digital storefront doesn’t have a rating system, they will less likely be allowed to operate there,” also said Susumu Takajima.

As of now, Studio Emiko and Drillimation only plan to produce freeware products due to the lack of a bank account for the former entity. Commercial projects will not likely begin production until sometime next year.
