Over the Canada Day weekend, Touhou Meijinka ~ Song of Divine Tempest, Drillimation’s next game, formally began development. The project is a collaboration between Drillimation Systems and the Vietnam-based Studio Emiko, featuring characters of the latter studio as bosses in game.
Song of Divine Tempest has been on the mind of Drillimation wanting to produce an original Touhou Project danmaku game after porting the PC-98 games to Windows in the form of the NES Demakes and the recently-released beta for Touhou Kourinden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria.
The game came to fruition after Studio Emiko needed at least one title to put out after several failed prototypes for fangames. It should be noted that the majority of video games during development fail before they get past the prototyping phase, and when a game fails at such phase, every hour and dollar of investment becomes a loss.
Drillimation and Studio Emiko are hoping to get Song of Divine Tempest out on itch.io and Steam by this year’s holiday season.
