Touhou Tenkijou to be Dropped in Favor of a New Project

Touhou Tenkijou developer Akira Akagi Games announced on Friday, January 14, 2022, they would be scrapping Touhou Tenkijou in favor of a brand new project staring Muse from Seihou Project. This is expected to happen following the Lunar New Year holiday, which will take place on February 1, 2022.

The decision to scrap the project was Akira Akagi Games is planning to create a new project starring the aforementioned character due to declining popularity. Another reason was due to the heavy thematic religious material that might drive away some players. Themes centering on religious material can fall under “thematic elements” according to the Motion Picture Association of America.

While the Muse project will reuse elements from Touhou Tenkijou, a friend of Akira Akagi Games says they like Muse and wants to make more contributions to Akira Akagi’s works. They are also planning an Android port of this game and the battle system will drive away from its Undertale-inspired counterpart partly because it may be incompatible with Android devices unless a person purchases expensive accessories.

We are hoping development on this new game will go smooth and swiftly, and we hope we see success.
