February 2026 Monthly Digest

Time just flies by so fast. We’ve made it to the second month of the year. In a few weeks, people from all over the world, particularly the Sinosphere, will be traveling to celebrate the massive Lunar New Year as we prepare for this upcoming spring. I’ve finally managed to have the Chuhou Joutai duo dressed in hanfu for the first time, and I gave Kagami a new one. Below are the highlights over the past two months.

Key Developments

New Touhou Project Fangame Finally Starts Development, First Stage Complete

The Danmakufu-based engine is complete, and development on this new Touhou Project fangame is finally underway. Development did not actually start until last weekend, and we had to prepare the prototype in a week so it could be playable at the Pittsburgh Anime Fest. Another factor that led to this short development? Rewriting the binder so it could be updated for the next crowds, and to provide a sophisticated image to our Japanese-speaking fans.

Compared to previous installments, the gameplay has been tweaked to be more in line with Touhou 8: Imperishable Night. The game’s plot centers around a rumor that’s spreading across Gensokyo about some corruptive substance. We’ve all heard this saying before: the longer you wait, the worse it will get.

Touhou Mihomu ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria After Years Has Begun Serialization

Back in late December and three days after Christmas, our first novel in the Drillimation Danmaku Universe, Touhou Mihomu ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria, began serialization on Pixiv and Archive of Our Own. The web novel dives into the observation and psychological scope of the worldview, aesthetics, lifestyle, and social relations of Miho Fujiwara as she adjusts to royal life in the Kirisame Dynasty. Additionally, the novel will explore some of her religious and philosophical questions and values.

If you want to read the novel, it is available on the following platforms:

So far, the first five chapters have been released.

It has become difficult to show the most-viewed tweets per month as that feature on Fedica is locked behind a paywall.

Instagram/Threads

Drillimation began trying new tactics to get their name out into the world. Research has shown that likes do not generate much engagement, as the name only extends into the notification box of the person who received the like. Comments get further reach as they can be viewed by anyone, even on posts that have a lot of likes. It seemed to work, and Drillimation is raking in followers. Nonetheless…

Drillimation began posting more reels of their in-development projects, particularly gameplay, and it has been receiving more views than what Drillimation anticipates. Even though both those videos didn’t generate enough likes…

YouTube

Over the past two months:

  • Content was viewed over 12,900 times, generating 303 watch hours. The average per month was 11,450 views.
  • Subscriber growth slowed. Only 22 subscribers were added to the count, with an average of 11 per month.
This YouTube Short we did managed to get more than our regular videos, generating 695 views. That’s three times what we typically produce.

Future Goals

Today is the Pittsburgh Anime Fest, which will start the month of February. This is the second month in a row where I was out of town for the transition between one month and another. Now that the first stage of our new game is complete, Wednesday will bring the first teaser video, followed by a gameplay video on Saturday. You can make the game’s completion faster by looking at our dedicated Careers page.

We’re looking forward to seeing you in Niagara Falls next month. Since we’ll be so close to the Canadian border, we will likely get more international fans than we’ve had in Erie and Pittsburgh.
