Preparing for the Pittsburgh Anime Fest – Major Changes are Coming to the Promotional Binder

While Drillimation continues development on its next project and the Pittsburgh Anime Fest less than a month away, one major change is the promotional binder shown to attendees at the event. The entire binder is getting rewritten, and for good reason.

Better Translations For Japanese-Language Visitors

After Drillimation utilized a new translation pipeline for Shining Shattering Sky ~ Reverie of Breaking Unreality, the entire binder will get retranslated to present a better, more sophisticated image to visitors at Anime Fest.

One major change is the software used to create the binder. Microsoft Publisher was originally used to create the binder, but the software is scheduled to be discontinued this October and will no longer be supported. This means Drillimation had to remake the binder with Adobe InDesign instead, but this was no easy feat. Furigana has been placed above kanji to assist with pronunciation, as the kids who read the binder might not be fluent enough in kanji yet and therefore not recognize all of the characters. There was also another obstacle that Drillimation had to overcome, and that was enabling CJK character functionality in InDesign.

By default, CJK character functionality such as ruby text is unavailable in the English version of InDesign. However, with a simple tweak in the Registry Editor, it can be enabled without changing the language or installing a different language version of InDesign altogether.

The promotional movie shown at Drillimation’s booth will also receive similar treatment.
