Drillimation Raked in Over 2,200 Followers in a Year Since Starting On Bluesky

Drillimation Systems has completed a busy twelve months managing their new channel on Bluesky, whose account was created after Studio Emiko made a temporary departure from Twitter. Hosokawa tweeted a bit for help following a hacking incident back in April that locked her out of Discord for three months. Since the debut of Ciel Chandelleur in July, Hosokawa has primarily been tweeting through that account, but her main Studio Emiko account remains largely dormant.

From Zero to 2.2K

Ever since Drillimation started on Bluesky, it managed to accumulate over 2,200 followers in just a year. Despite current follower growth on Twitter slowing down, Drillimation on the site isn’t going away. Back in late 2020, Drillimation’s Twitter account had roughly that same number as Drillimation’s Bluesky follower count, and since Drillimation started a large campaign to build up followers in late 2019, it has taken half a decade for their combined follower count to reach five digits.

Drillimation has often released images and artwork commemorating these milestones, and back when each platform had less than 1,000 followers, these images were released every 100 followers. Once a platform hits that number, it increases to every 500, then every 1,000 after 5,000, and so on.

Engagement Driven

Drillimation heavily relies on grassroots marketing to spread their word by means of liking, retweeting, or commenting on posts. Most of this marketing is done on other indie developers who share similar interests as Drillimation. It was originally done on Twitter and Instagram, the latter of which largely stopped in 2023 after they changed the algorithm by removing the Recent tab from hashtag pages.

Ironically, these low-budget marketing tactics have been responsible for driving up their followers. While hashtags have been useful for spreading the word, an Instagram study revealed that hashtags do not generate considerable engagement, and was the primary reason for the removal. When Instagram removed the ability to follow hashtags last December, it was done so for a similar reason and to prevent hijacking, where irrelevant content is posted to gain visibility.

As a result of these efforts, Drillimation has liked hundreds of game development-related posts, giving users the decision to follow Drillimation. Whether this will continue at this pace will be hard to predict like a rubber band where the farther you pull it, the more difficult things become.

  1. This is a truly insightful and well-documented overview of Drillimation Systems’ journey and growth across social platforms. It beautifully highlights the persistence, creativity, and adaptability behind their steady rise — from a modest start to a thriving presence on Bluesky with over 2,200 followers in just a year. 🌟

What stands out most is how their success stems not from large budgets or flashy campaigns, but from genuine engagement and community connection — liking, sharing, and supporting fellow indie creators. That grassroots spirit reflects true indie authenticity and passion for the craft. 🎮✨
