The Inspirations For Touhou Chouhatsuyou’s Soundtrack

Over two weeks have passed since the release of Touhou Chouhatsuyou ~ Burgeoning Tresses of Longevity. I’ve already tackled the soundtrack inspirations for Touhou Meijinka ~ Song of Divine Tempest, and this article will cover the inspirations behind the soundtrack for Burgeoning Tresses of Longevity, namely the melodies, percussion, and chord progressions.

SongInspiration(s)
Oriental Long Hair That’s as Beautiful as a Jewel ~ Burgeoning Tresses of LongevityOther than the Theme of Eastern Story leitmotif, the main inspiration behind this song was The Flower of Discord Has Bloomed from Touhou Tengyakushuu ~ Zenith of Antinomic Monarch, but envisioned as a spring version.
A Spell That Makes Hair Bloom ~ Spring BlessingA God That Misses People ~ Romantic Fall from Touhou 10: Mountain of Faith, but envisioned as a spring version.
Overture in Harionago’s FrenzyIn terms of song structure, Let’s Make Something from Azumanga Daioh was a major inspiration, namely the arrangement that FanTouhouMusic did for the album Touhou Houshushou ~ Wandering and Transcending Naivete Soul.
Youkai Princess Ball ~ Noble RoadMy Maid, Sweet Maid from Kioh Gyoku was used as the basis, unlike the original, which has some parts with a 4/4 time signature, the entire song uses a 3/4 time signature as it is a waltz number that takes place on water.
Super Long-Haired Siren of the Phantasmal WatersThis piece can be described as a mix between Mist Lake and Mermaid from the Uncharted Land from Touhou 14: Double Dealing Character. In terms of chord progressions, the song Slavonic Titania from Touhou Tengyakushuu ~ Zenith of Antinomic Monarch was a major inspiration.
Oriental GenesisNone, entirely original.
Geasa Alastorii ~ Geas of AlastorHall of Disharmonious Sounds from Touhou Houshushou ~ Wandering and Transcending Naivete Soul may have influenced the structure in more ways than one.
Prelude of a Joyous FeastNone, entirely original.
Flaming Wish MazeNone for the original composition, though the arrangement was inspired by Dark Cinderella from Touhou Shinkujou ~ Emergence of Crimson Acropolis.
A Curse Befalling Those Which Crave SleepNone, entirely original.
No Severance ~ Okiku’s HairThe intro was inspired by Pavane for a Dead Princess by Maurice Ravel (which may have also inspired Remilia Scarlet’s theme Septette for a Dead Princess), though the rest of the song was inspired by The Phantom of the Castle Keep ~ Ignis Fatuus from Touhou Tengyakushuu ~ Zenith of Antinomic Monarch. Unlike the original, this entire song was written with a 6/4 time signature.
The Ascent Up the Tower of the Holy JewelNone, this is only an arrange of the title screen theme.
Exotic Tribal Treasure ~ Samson’s SecretWhen coming up with the song’s structure, its instrumentation and the rest were all inspired by Agony, Bloodshed, and Misdirection ~ Divine Revolution from Touhou Shinkujou ~ Emergence of Crimson Acropolis.
Springtime Eclipse of the ShadowsThe Call of the Nephilim from Touhou Domeiju ~ Mystical Power Plant. There isn’t anything else to explain.
The Woman Whose Bald Head Creates TotalityNone, entirely original.
The Omen of the Yao Queen and Okiku PrincessIn terms of the chord progressions, the beginning of The Black Omen from Chrono Trigger. Everything else is original.
The Lost Locks of Hair Flying in the Sky ~ End of a Hairy OrdealThe song Raspberry Heaven from Azumanga Daioh, namely the arrangement A Song We Sang Together in the Evening from Touhou Houshushou ~ Wandering and Transcending Naivete Soul. Unlike the inspiration, which was written with a 3/4 time signature, this piece used a standard 4/4 time signature.
Player’s ScoreAgain, this is an arrangement of the song of the same name, but this time the motifs from Touhou Tengyakushuu ~ Zenith of Antinomic Monarch were used.

I will await you again in the next game.
