Two months ago, Touhou Chouhatsuyou ~ Burgeoning Tresses of Longevity began development, and as of March 4, 2025, the game is nearing completion, with the extra stage and endings left on the to-do list.
I have to say that some admit its weird concept of your hair growing all because of a mysterious scent. We may have multiple plans for games in the works, but not all of them may see the light of day. For example, I had plans to direct a canon entry in the Drillimation Danmaku Universe that would take place during the opening of Touhou Kichouden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria 2 (a midquel, to be exact), specifically during Queen Marisa’s pregnancy. The other planned playable characters included Reimu Hakurei, Yukari Yakumo, and Kaguya Houraisan, undertaking the same thing as Marisa. It would have the same system as Touhou 8: Imperishable Night, and the main events would occur in the final hours before they enter their early stages of labor and give birth. They would die of a broken heart if the player ran out of time, resulting in a game over. It got scrapped because Hosokawa thought it would be too disgusting.
I’m always finding unique ways to create incidents in Touhou Project fangames, and it’s difficult to find a concept that will satisfy everyone. Hosokawa also has plans to direct another title but use a more modern-style. Nevertheless, a Super Nintendo-style adaptation may be produced if things don’t pan out.
Chuhou Joutai‘s Susumu Takajima and Kagami Ochiai won’t be left in the dust. I’m planning to use them in a future game, but they will not be the main protagonists but still playable characters. I also have plans to include them in a “Phantasmagoria” versus shooter type game, which will be multiplayer-oriented.
That said, the release of Touhou Kichouden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria 2 is still on our back burner for this September. I don’t know what ideas may pave the way.
