Players in Russia Still Feeling Lingering Effects on Last Week’s itch.io Outage

Last week on Memorial Day, itch.io suffered a massive outage that prevented millions of players from accessing the site and developers from uploading patches. While the outage lasted a brutal 12 hours, players in Russia are still feeling the outage’s effects.

According to a thread on the itch.io forums, the operators do not block any countries from accessing their servers, but the transferring of data to new servers did require a new IP address and the DNS settings did take time to propagate. A temporary workaround was created by a user as explained in this thread.

Even days after restoration, Russian players are still being met with error pages when attempting to access the site. VPN usage also didn’t work for some. Russian law requires VPN companies to have government permission to operate.

It is not clear when this may be fixed.
