I entered the video game industry to amplify my voice and see the world. I’ve mostly traveled all over America, seeing things and taking the opportunity to do stuff that most other Americans can’t.
Sometimes, these trips form the basis for certain plot points in Drillimation games. My next project will certainly feature a plot like this. But where do I put it?
Think of the last place you traveled to. For me, it was Orlando. The vision of Gensokyo featured in the Drillimation Danmaku Universe is modelled after the eastern United States past the Mississippi River. The first half of the Midwest and Northeast are what makes up the eastern half of the continent, and the southern US makes up the western half of the continent – rotated 90 degrees clockwise.
In Touhou Kourinden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria, there is a city titled Yakumoshi. If you’ve played the game, you can obviously expect the city to be modelled after the most magical place on earth. It has a lot of things you would expect in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World – you may see Main Street, USA and the iconic castle, but none of the other lands. That’s because the game is set during the Edo Period, where things based on the future (Tomorrowland) didn’t exist yet.
We don’t know what trips for 2024 may pave the way, but we have a full year ahead of us.
