It’s been nearly a year since Pokémon Scarlet and Violet launched. Even though some of the issues have been fixed, I’m still mad that they did not fix the framerate issues. I purchased the DLC on day one, and within a few hours of starting, I had incredible ridiculous luck. I was exploring Oni Mountain and stumbled across a shiny Noibat. My reaction was loud and took place at 11AM. I immediately had to tell as many people as possible. I screenshotted my evidence, dashed to my Discord server, Twitter, and Reddit announcing that I found a shiny. The pictures I took were posted the following day on Twitter and Instagram.
Finding shinies in Pokémon is an extremely rare thing, and it was worth it. Sure, it took two tries to capture it at full health. Not to mention they’re tough to breed too.
Anyway, steering away from my bragging, even though Pokémon Scarlet and Violet takes place in Spain and Portugal, I thought Kitakami took place in the northeastern part of Spain and possibly southern France, whereas X and Y took place in the northern part of the country. Being Pokémon games, the developers had to take inspiration from their home country of Japan when designing Kitakami. The inspirations for it may be unclear, but Emiko Hosokawa told me that it may have been inspired by a location where Japanese ambassador Hasekura Tsunenaga had visited and even stayed.
After continuing my research, I was proven wrong about the northeastern part of Paldea being the location for Kitakami, and I later learned that it took place in Japan, specifically the Tohoku region. Stemming from the fact the events of The Teal Mask being part of a school trip, this kind of parallels my own trip to Japan as part of a school trip as well.
Kitakami also tells a legend of its own about an ogre and its mask. Many would wish that ogre was Shrek! One of the biggest annoyances with this DLC is having to have Ogrepon in your party for the DLC’s final battle. Was it so during the grand finale of that battle where terastallizing meant you could say “I object!” like in the first film? I may never know.
This was only part one of the Expansion Pass. The story involving Kieran ended in a cliffhanger, but I’m wondering where the second half may take place. I also wonder what the plot for it will be like and what Pokémon we may see.
