Touhou Meijinka Will Be the First Game to Test Drillimation’s Driller Engine System 2

Touhou Meijinka ~ Song of Divine Tempest will be the first game developed by Drillimation that will test their brand new Driller Engine System 2 engine. The engine will be designed to work in arcade environments.

The Driller Engine System 2 will be modelled after the Namco System 2, which released in 1987 and has hardware similar to what is found in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which would be released in Japan three years later in 1990. By default, the resolution is 288×224, though Drillimation changed it to 256×288. The system can display up to 256 moving sprites at any given time, regardless of size. Sprites can either be static, scrolling, as well as being rotatable. Most sprites can use a maximum of 16 colors, and backgrounds can use up to 256 colors. Up to 24 PCM channels are useable, though only half will be used for music and the other half will be for sound effects.
