Truth has it on why Touhou 1: The Highly Responsive to Prayers NES Demake is still going strong even after a year and a half of its release, drawing in roughly three times of Drillimation’s average audience. It’s not clear on why it got there, but there may be a number of reasons and theories supporting it.
The following are some possible reasons for its popularity:
- The game is a breakout clone/block breaker game just like its original counterpart. These games tend to lean on the casual side of the gaming spectrum, but the game is more hardcore.
- The game is a great way for new players of Touhou Project to experience the world of Gensokyo for the very first time, even if they’ve never played one before.
- The use of NES Demake in the title could be tempting those to play the game even though the game isn’t on an NES ROM file.
