Problem: You attempt to play a Drillimation Danmaku Universe game and it crashes, runs slowly, or has graphical problems.
Solution
Before you try any of the steps below, make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the game and your graphics drivers are fully updated. If you are still experiencing issues, try the steps below.
Many of the Drillimation Danmaku Universe games for Windows require hardware acceleration in order to display the graphics. If you experience crashing very shortly after opening a game or it won’t start at all, this can happen if your GPU doesn’t support hardware acceleration. This is often required in some remote desktops and virtual machine setups, depending on the hardware involved and the settings of the remote and virtual machine software. If you recently updated your GPU drivers, you may need to restart your system so the changes can take effect.
It is possible to run the game using the Windows software renderer via OpenGL. Please note that running a game under OpenGL will use your CPU to display the graphics and the performance might not be as good. Your CPU usage figure in Windows Task Manager may be higher than what you expect. To run a game under OpenGL, follow these instructions:
- Open the Start Menu, search for the game you are trying to run, and select Open File Location. This will open a Windows Explorer window pointing at your Start Menu contents.
- Find the relevant game, right-click the icon, and select Properties.
- In the Shortcut tab, select the Target field, and add a space and “/renderer=OpenGL” (do not include the quotes). For example, if you are running Touhou Kourinden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria, it would become “C:\Program Files\Touhou Kourinden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria\Touhou Kourinden ~ Mythos of Phantasmagoria.exe /renderer=OpenGL”.
- Select Apply or OK to apply the change and close the Properties window and any Explorer windows that are open.
- Try running the game and see if it works.
If it still does not launch or you experience graphical problems, you will need to contact Drillimation Systems customer support, and we recommend attaching a DXDiag report so we can diagnose your issue. To create a DXDiag report:
- Press the Windows key and enter “dxdiag” in the search box, and select the app.
- When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens, select the Run 64-bit DxDiag option. If you don’t see the option, skip to step 4.
- Wait for the progress bar to complete and disappear. When your report is ready, select Save All Information. We recommend saving the file to your desktop so you can access it, and give it a name you can remember.
- Select Exit.
